Abstract
The purpose of the study is to verify the mediating effects of ego-resiliency in the relationship between a father's role performance and adolescents' academic self-efficacy. To this end, questionnaires were administered to 801 of first/second grade male/female students from two high schools in Daejeon and the data were then analyzed. The Metropolitan City and Boryeong-si, Chungcheongnam-do were the geographical areas examined. For analyzing structural relationships of the collected data, the data were analyzed by means of confirmatory factor analysis and through two mediated models. The main results of the study are as follows. The mediating effects of ego-resiliency were found to exist in the role performance of the fathers and the academic self-efficacy of adolescents. In other words, while the fathers' role performance directly affects the academic self-efficacy of adolescents, it also influences academic self-efficacy indirectly through ego-resiliency. The study suggests that, in order to improve the academic self-efficacy of adolescents, it is necessary to take into consideration not only the environmental variables that are important for the growth and development of adolescents, (especially the role of the father), but also personal variables such as the ego-resiliency.
